Association of Apple Computer Users Advocacy

Our Mission is Clear
.
The Association of Apple Computer Users and groups is chartered with ADVOCACY as one of its primary missions. One of the advocacy projects includes:
.
  1. Assisting User Groups in educating their communities about online privacy, and security, as well as protecting children from potentially harmful elements present in the online environment.
    .
  2. Assisting individual users in becoming aware of and learning what they should know about online privacy, and security -- as well as how they can protect their children in the online environment.
    .
  3. To participate in Legislative, and Regulatory advocacy in the U.S. Federal Government for human interest causes concerning the user of computers, the Internet, and technology in general.
.
Community Education & Awareness Project: The Digital Divide
.
The AACUG is in the process of applying for a Federal grant to help fund the production of a series of seminars and a seminar package for the purpose of promoting community awareness about technology and online security.
___ The primary objective of this project is to utilize the existing user group community as the conduit of distribution of this important information into their local communities.
___ AACUG also intends to gather funding to make the live presentation available to any civic, educational or community organization who desires it.
This Seminar Presentation will provide awareness and education on:
  • How an unscrupulous and ever increasing online element exploits children, the elderly, the underprivileged and the uneducated
  • How easy it is for children to fall prey to online preditors
  • Protecting yourself and your family against undesirable unsolicited email -- and how to deal with it once you get it
  • Protecting your personal data from trackers and harvesters
  • Guarding children with online access from preditors and stalkers
  • Setting up a secure computer, email client and web browser
  • Recognizing illegal and felonious activities, and how to deal with them
  • Specific online services and situations which promote or provide safe harbor for spammers, trackers, stalkers and online preditors.
  • How to use technology for beneficial online experiences
.
It can't succeed without your help
.
The first step is to take a brief SPAM SURVEY. The next step is to encourage your friends, and community members to also take the survey.
___ The (completely private) data gathered from the survey is essential in building the advocacy case in favor of online privacy, safety and security.
.
THE NEXT STEP is to get involved. There is a second level survey that involves more in-depth detail about email, spam and online habits. This information will become vital to the success of the project.
.
THE NEXT STEP is to volunteer. We will need volunteers in various capacities from light-weight, to intensive research. If you have a passion about protecting your rights in technology, then you need to be fully involved.
.
Membership
.
While our programs are not exclusive to any race, creed, or computer platform, we encourage Apple Computer users to join. Membership in AACUG is open to all non-profit, independent Apple computer users and groups.
