Different Kinds Of Portable Memory For Your Computer

Most people use some sort of portable memory now days.  Whether you need to take files to multiple places or you need extra storage for you desktop, there are many reasons why we need portable storage.  Some people use portable memory as a way to keep important sensitive documents separate from household or recreational files.  Others use it for data backup in case their computer ever crashes.  Whatever your reasons may be there are different types of portable storage for your use.

DVDs and CDs are still around and still in use and still a good choice for storing files.  Probably most widely used for system backup.  However, they can hold larger files that may not be immediately needed but that you do not want stored on your computer.  These larger files can include music, movies and pictures that you do not want taking space up on your computer but that you can take with you should you want to share them.

The most popular is the USB drives.  This portable storage can also been known as jump drives, flash drives, or thumb drives.  They are simple to use, drag and drop method, and desktop computers detect them as soon as you plug them in.  USB drives come in different memory sizes and can be kept in your pocket.  The amount really depends on the size of memory that you get.  This portable storage is a very convenient option for those who are on the go.

External hard drives are the most expensive but they also hold a lot more memory.  They can be moved from computer to computer but because they are so large portability doesn’t really seem feasible.  Generally this portable storage is used for data backup on a laptop or desktop.
